Martin is a modern and ambitious musician, as well as a well versed sound engineer. Playing in orchestras, jazz bands, and productions in school, Martin has lived and breathed music all of his life. He then studied at Birmingham City University, attaining a first-class honours in (IET acredited) BSc Music Technology. Birmingham City University is home to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, in which Martin worked with a variety of talent, including rock, jazz, and classical musicians. During university, he undertook an exchange programme, studying for half a year at University of Rochester, NY. Martin originally worked as an assistant engineer at Headline Music Studios, run by Piers Mortimer (Deep Purple, Laurence Jones, Bernie Marsdon, Joanna Forest, Jamiroquai Band/Groovesonix, Sweet Crisis, Morganway)

Experience

Martin played piano for Moulsham High School’s Orchestra,  playing in Little Shop of Horrors, Grease, We Will Rock You and The Wizard of Oz school Productions, as well as performing in school concerts. He also played piano for Moulsham High School’s Jazz Band, performing Herbie Hancock, Glenn Miller, etc. Martin was involved with Las Estrellas (girl’s choir), Moulsham’s Senior Choir, and keyboard club, where he inspired children to take up keyboard. 

Martin operated sound for Boswell’s Seussical school production, as well as for school concerts. 

 Using SSL Duality and AWS consoles, Martin worked with musicians from a variety of backgrounds, not limited to rock, jazz, and classical. Using the Conservatoire’s Studio 1 and Live Room 2, Martin recorded, mixed, and mastered final year student projects of the Conservatoire. 

 Martin was chosen by the University to take part in an exchange programme with the University of Rochester, NY. This took place in 2019 between January – May. He studied under Grammy award winning engineer Stephen Roessner. 

 

Using a Neve VR60 console, Martin has worked with Piers Mortimer on a variety of projects, varying from rock legends to voiceover work. Martin has worked with Don Airey (Deep Purple), Rob Harris (Jamiroquai), Sarah Brown (Simple Minds), Sweet Crisis, Morganway, and even Phil Spencer (from Location, Location, Location). 

Since graduating from University, Martin has worked on various projects. He worked as the Sound Operator for the Chelmsford Civic Theatre’s production of Beauty and the Beast in December 2021.

Martin also played piano for St. John Payne Catholic Comprehensive School for their production of We Will Rock You.

Independent Musician/Engineer | 2021 - Present

Since graduating from University, Martin has worked on various projects. He worked as the Sound Operator for the Chelmsford Civic Theatre’s production of Beauty and the Beast in December 2021. Martin has taken on freelance work including recording audio for lesson content as well as engineering sound for ‘Woman’s Place’.

 

Martin also played piano for St. John Payne Catholic Comprehensive School for their productions of We Will Rock You and High School Musical.
